Answer the Call – Become a Volunteer Firefighter

Be the Hometown Hero Your Community Can Rely On

Why Volunteer?

Ohio’s fire departments face a critical challenge: fewer volunteer firefighters and more emergency calls. With over two-thirds relying on volunteers, communities urgently need individuals to step up and make a difference.

Roles Available

Volunteer fire departments offer various roles, each providing a unique opportunity to serve your community. Connect with your local department to explore available opportunities.

Training

Volunteer firefighters must complete a 36-hour State of Ohio Certified Volunteer Firefighter Course. The State Fire Marshal’s Ohio Fire Academy offers free training opportunities.
